What the...?

Found this on craigslist. I went back and forth on it because I certainly don't need another chair. But I decided to go check it out - and glad I did. It is in near perfect condition [just needed a good cleaning] and was only $40! It's not like any chair I have seen before. Still doing research on it. The arms [hands?] are exposed solid wood. It is upholstered in black vinyl and the seating/back is several individual fixed segments. I'm pinpointing it from about mid '60s? Amazingly comfortable.

Final assembly of the knock-off lounger was completed last night. I will post some detailed pics soon but here is the final product. Dark walnut with white vinyl:

The one that got away...

It's usually the people buying off of craigslist that are flakes. I contacted the guy selling this chair ASAP. Told him I was very interested and set up a specific meeting time [I was the first to contact him]. So what does he do? Sells it to someone else looking at his other stuff. Thanks for nothing...f*cker.

Thanks craigslist / suck it Ikea

I always liked the Sebastian counter stools from Ikea. But I wanted to see if I could find something a bit different for my new island. Finally decided that the Sebastians were a great option - went to buy them and they are now discontinued in San Diego. Huh?? Found some [brand new!] on craigslist 2 for the price of one! Wanted black ones but oh well...

Year of the Rabbit

Was in San Francisco a few weekends ago and while taking in the ton of MCM homes/buildings I spied this one with a bunny in the window:

Side table

Found this little side table at Atomic Bazaar. I believe it to be handmade, but very well done:

Sneek peek

Just got the cushions back the other day. Came out great. Bases cleaned up very nice and almost done with sanding the plywood backs:

New Selig / Eames lounge knock-off project

I had restored one of these Eames lounge knock-offs last year. Found another one on craigslist last week for a ridiculously good price so I grabbed it for a friend. I'm redoing it for him [this time in white] to put in his Palm Springs place. Overall it's in great shape - missing a screw here and there but no big. The back support screws have come thru the plywood but that will be an easy fix with some washers:
I've removed the cushions - a hideous butterscotch vinyl with off-white trim[!] and they'll be off to the upholsterors today. More restoration pics coming!
